Volunteer Spotlight…Meet Kathryn “Kat” WrightKathryn Wright is another one of our most prized volunteers, and is our featured Spotlight for August! After growing up in Angleton as a dancer, going to college and raising a beautiful family with her husband Clay, Kat first heard of The JET-PAC through a mutual friend (and JET-PAC parent!) when she saw the Grande Jete’s B- Roll of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee in the Spring of 2019! She immediately was intrigued, joined class the class the following Fall, joked that when a young Mr. Travis walked in in what she describes as pjs and sunglasses, that her first thoughts were “Who is this child leading our class?” (Ha ha!)! Kat says she really knew only one person at that point, and did not find out that their teacher was actually an adult until the next semester- right before they opened Detective Rob in the Spring of 2020! Currently, Kat is enrolled in the Adult Musical Theatre Class (Grand Jete’s), and Adult Tap. She lent a hand for the first time behind the scenes with costumes for the Grand Jete’s production of The Drowsy Chaperone and then assisted with sets in the Summer of 2021 for Don’t Dress For Dinner. She said she didn’t realize at first that is what she was in for, just that she randomly had to hold a nail gun for Travis in a rehearsal while he was building a window, and she ended up being asked to go screw something in that was loose- and the rest is HISTORY! Her favorite part of volunteering is the cooperation of ALL of the volunteers, seeing all of the pieces of what everyone takes part in all come together to make something cool, and seeing what it takes to support and make the shows come alive. Everyone is working together and doing a little, and in the end, it makes something GRAND! This is what also makes it hard sometimes… watching it all come down at the end of a production, and striking all of the sets, costumes, props, etc. that were all just perfectly placed together to make magic! Part of what she says is exciting is walking in the Black Box every week, and seeing that SOMETHING new has been created! Kathryn also shared that she thoroughly enjoys the time with the kids, seeing them grow and helping them be successful, talking through quick changes during rehearsal as a way to help them problem solve, and being present for any needs that may arise for all of the blooming artists that the studio is cultivating on a daily basis. In her early life, she originally was set to be a secondary English teacher… that is until she got to student teaching and just could NOT do it. This powerhouse says that stumbling upon a random B-Roll video of a local performing arts academy, finding that they offer adult classes, and taking the leap to join a class a half hour away from her house has been a blessing. Taking part in class and subsequently volunteering with costumes and set building has fulfilled the teaching heart that she still harbored deep down inside. Kathryn, we are so very lucky that you took that leap, and have found a home with us. Our young artists are better for having you, and your desire to always lend a hand when you see a need is, well, appreciated. We could not do so many things without you!So, if you see a tiny little strawberry blonde lady on a ladder, stuffed in the paint closet, or under a pile of costumes with her stitching gun, give her a high five- she TOTALLY deserves it! ![]() The JET-PAC 2024-2025 Season ProductionsWe are thrilled to offer another great season of productions!
